The Karlštejn Château is often called the roof of Europe as it stands on the main European watershed of the Elbe and the Danube. Filip Kinský had it built in the 2nd half of the 18th century along with an expansive game reserve for deer. Karel Alexander Thurn-Taxis purchased the château in 1823 and transformed it into a hunting lodge in 1825. The château building was subsequently modified into a recreational centre. It underwent extensive reconstruction from 2016 so that the small château once again displayed the hallmark of the baroque and could be opened to the public.

The hunting lodge offers two unconnected period château halls with a combined capacity of up to 100 people, which are suitable for meetings, training sessions, lectures and concerts. Both halls have excellent acoustics.

The facility has its own restaurant which not only serves modern cuisine, but also a thematic gastronomic experience from the period of Josef Švejk with a classic pub and Czech cuisine.
